Jorge leads strategy at Foresite Labs, spanning scientific thesis development, company creation, and portfolio strategy at the intersection of AI and biomedicine. Jorge’s work at Foresite Labs focuses on building the scientific and technological foundations for AI-driven biomedical discovery, shaping how the firm identifies, incubates, and scales companies at the convergence of AI and biomedicine.
Before joining Foresite Labs, Jorge served as Chief of AI for Science Innovation and Chief AI and Data Scientist for Oncology Research and Development at AstraZeneca, where he led the development and deployment of multimodal foundation models, advanced data science approaches, and agentic AI systems across drug discovery and clinical development. Earlier, he spent more than a decade at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where he became Chief of Experimental Pathology and Director of the Experimental Pathology Fellowship Program.
Jorge has authored more than 700 peer-reviewed papers. His research has helped define molecular taxonomies for rare tumors, elucidate intratumor genetic heterogeneity, and pioneer technologies spanning single-cell DNA sequencing of archival tissue and computational pathology. His translational work includes contributions to the first FDA-cleared computational pathology diagnostics and the first AI-based predictive biomarker for an ADC that received FDA Breakthrough Device Designation. He is a 2025 Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher and was recognized as a 2026 MachineCON AI150 Research and Science Leader.
