Jacob Barlow, PhD

Sr. Associate, Life Sciences Research

Jacob is an Associate on the Research team where he focuses on identifying early stage transformational technologies within the life sciences field.

Prior to Foresite, Jacob was a Fellow at Northpond Ventures where he focused on investments within the life science tools and diagnostics space. He completed his Ph.D. in Bioengineering from Caltech in the lab of Dr. Rustem Ismagilov. His thesis focused on quantitative nucleic acid technologies for the study of the human microbiome and the development of new diagnostics. He led and collaborated on several human clinical studies interrogating host-microbial interactions in irritable bowel syndrome, Celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and cognition.

Jacob received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering and B.S. in Biochemistry at Northeastern University. During his time there he completed biotech internships at Moderna Therapeutics, Entrega Biosciences, and the Massachusetts General Hospital division of precision medicine. His work focused on RNA secondary structure and function relationships, oral drug delivery, and phage display for the discovery of new cancer imaging peptides.
